Background
Theresa Piwowar was born and raised in New York before moving to Florida as a child. Theresa earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with a major in Accounting, from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. Theresa earned her MBA from UNC Charlotte in 2001 and has enjoyed working in private accounting for over 20 years. While living in Charlotte and working on her MBA, Theresa met her husband Michael. Theresa and Michael have two children; both children attend UNC Charlotte as well. Theresa is currently the Vice President of Accounting & Tax at The Biltmore Company. In her role, Theresa is responsible for oversight of the accounting, tax, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting for the Biltmore entities. As a licensed NC Certified Public Accountant, Theresa began her career in public accounting working for both audit and tax clients. Theresa holds certifications as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and as an Accredited Estate Planner (AEP). In 2002, Theresa and her family moved to Asheville and live in Western NC.
Theresa’s decision to apply to the DBA program was based on her lifetime love of learning and her desire to have a positive impact on her community and organization. She hopes to grow both personally and professionally through the DBA program.
Research Interest
Theresa’s research interests include organizational behavior, ethical leadership, creating positive change in organizational culture, innovation, leadership development, preservation, sustainability initiatives within business models, and closely-held multi-generational family businesses.
