Bryan S. Bouboulis
Background
Bryan S. Bouboulis has served as a full-time faculty member at Appalachian State University for 13 years in the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance. He is the director of the department’s Financial Literacy Initiative, collaborating with campus and community organizations to enhance financial knowledge among students and residents of the Boone community. He also leads the department’s internship program, working directly with student interns and their employers to support experiential learning and career development.
Before transitioning to academia full time, Bouboulis gained experience across several industries. He served as a magistrate judge for the North Carolina court system in Watauga County, worked in the restaurant industry for a decade, and held roles in the retail sector.
Bouboulis is also deeply involved in community service. He has been a member of the Todd Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chair of the firefighter relief fund committee, training officer, and chief of the department. He is Rescue Task Force certified and has served as a first responder.
His decision to pursue the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) at UNC Charlotte is driven by a desire to extend his academic career and continue making a lasting impact on students’ lives through teaching and research.
Research Interest
Bouboulis’ research interests include examining the impact of building ordinances that allow for dual residential and commercial development in small communities. He is also interested in the implications of name, image and likeness (NIL) legislation on athletic and academic budgets at Group of Five universities. Additionally, he explores how artificial intelligence is influencing investment strategies within financial institutions.
