Background
Colby Carr holds a Master of Science in Finance and Economics from West Texas A&M University. Carr earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in English and statistics from Appalachian State University. Carr currently serves as a lecturer of finance within Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business. Prior to joining the College of Business faculty at Appalachian State University in 2021, Carr worked in politics following graduation from high school where he gained experience with grassroots fundraising activities, campaign finance and political activism. Additionally, Carr has extensive experience in insurance and banking, having worked as an underwriter for CVS corporate office in the Hartford, Connecticut region in 2020 and as an investment associate for Merrill Lynch following graduation from Appalachian State University in 2017. Carr also worked as a financial analyst for Hanes Brands in their regional Conover, North Carolina location where he helped manage the $1 billion foam bedding supplies arm of the company.
Carr also has unique experience and insight into government finance and policy analysis. Carr has recently served as policy analyst for several northeastern U.S. municipalities, where he focused on the economic impact of proposed changes in tax policies. Carr currently serves as a university liaison between Appalachian State University and the North Carolina Council on Economic Education, a contributor to the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges on curriculum and instruction and as a local board member for the North Carolina State Employees’ Credit Union.
Carr has a plethora of experience in education at all levels, having provided instruction for both private and public institutions at the K-12 and college and university levels. Carr currently provides instruction for college and university students for various institutions throughout North Carolina, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Colorado.
Carr is pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration to be eligible for professorship at Appalachian State University.
Research Interest
Carr has a particular research interest in the areas of financial and health economics and finance. Carr is interested in researching implicit costs associated with TCO supply chain models and cost optimization tools associated with firms’ supply chains.
