Background

Born and raised in North Carolina, Denise is currently a resident of Durham, North Carolina. Denise has earned her BBA in Accounting, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from North Carolina Central University, and an MBA from Pfeiffer University. She is an Associate Director in the Office of Contracts and Grants at NC State University. In her current position, Denise is responsible for the operations team, who oversees post-award administration that supports department and college research administrators, faculty and staff. Before joining NC State University, she served as the Director of Sponsor Research and Programs at North Carolina Central University, held various positions at Duke University and worked in Clinical Research at FHI360.

Pursuing a doctoral degree has been a goal that Denise has wanted to obtain to have a more profound understanding of operations management. 

In her spare time, Denise enjoys spending time with her family, attending sporting events, theatre, and comedy shows.

Research Interest

Denise’s research interest is to focus on how training impacts the management of research administration. Funding agencies want to be sure that companies and universities are good stewards of the funding they give for research projects. Having proper literature and scholarly articles to support case studies and processes that are best practices, are much-needed in the field of Research Administration.
